No, it isn't a Starrett, but I don't want to take my dad's fine old Starrett out of the drawer except for critical set-ups and super precise (fine) joinery INSIDE the shop. But everyone needs at least one decent square they don't have to "baby." This Brand and model provides reliable accuracy for general carpentry. Got it as a present. Everyone needs a Starrett for the super-accurate fine work in your shop. At this price, it's a solid value. My Empire square is very true; within.002" over the twelve inch length. That makes it good enough for most carpentry jobs.
Will last for at least one lifetime. The right size for a tool belt or pouch. I cannot imagine not having this with me when I go to do something with a friend. Cutting wood , checking level of a cabinet before setting a 46" LCD on top, or just using as a handy straight edge.
just got it. Looks good. Not bad. My last model broke after some use but wasn't from Empire.
